For that trade union movement felt the exigency of a Bangladesh platform. And thus the JSJ’S was born. Mr. Abdullah Mohammad Mohiuddin, a renowned trade union leader, freedom fighter and eminent political personality was the key initiator. Mission Statement JSJ’S Mission is to co-operate the Trade Union movement in Bangladesh to grow like a social partner and as vanguard for democratic development and common prosperity. Forthcoming days are challenging and yet prosperous. The TU movement has always and shall in future too, have to overcome the challenges and embrace the prosperity. It is only an united, strong, capable, effective and responsible TU movement, which can accomplish the task. BILS wants the TU Movement in Bangladesh to grow like that. It is only way to improve the capacity of the National Trade Union Movement to put into effects in an organised and effective way, the real desire of the workers at large, who have learnt from their experience the necessity of unity, knowledge and skill. This is what the JSJ’S wants to do as an institute of the working people. Objectives Democracy and Human Rights; Empowerment and Equality; Dignity, Credibility and Responsibility of trade union; are among the major objectives of JSJ’S. To strengthen the capacity of the trade union movement to become recognised as an active partner in the social dialogue regarding the development process of Bangladesh. To contribute to the effective participation and functioning of the TU movement in the tripartite mechanism. To develop a workers friendly mind-set of the society where workers rights are recognised and honoured. To contribute to a greater unity in labour movement and encourage organising more workers in Trade Unions. To contribute to strengthening of the democratic process of Trade Unions and their ability to improve services to their members. To contribute to the process of establishing an exploitation free society by ensuring workers fair share in the national wealth and development. To contribute to strengthening national, regional and international solidarity and networking of the workers organisations and Institutions. To enhance the ability and skill of the TU movement to render services, and the capacity in order to address the priorities of their members. To enhance the ability and skill of the TU movement to recruit more members and gain more practical strength to combat challenges. JSJ’S Governance JSJ’S is governed by the general body which elects an executive body in it’s general meeting for two years. Between the general meeting the executive body is the highest decision making body for JSJ’S and its projects. The Executive body meets at least --- in a year to take strategic decisions. A 21 members Advisory Council has been advising JSJ’S since inception. Veteran trade union leaders are in the council, meet --- a year in the Final joint meetings.
